PUPILS at a Crumpsall school are to benefit from two new libraries after staff and parents raised more than ?4,000 to pay for the refurbishment.

The libraries are the culmination of two years vigorous fundraising by the Home/School Association at Crumpsall Lane and the result of donations from businesses in the area.

As well as dipping into their pockets and organising fundraising events and sponsored activities, many parents also contributed time and effort to carry out the redecorating programme.

Crumpsall councillor Tom Lister, whose daughter is a pupil at the school, performed the opening ceremony during National Book Week when children celebrated by dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Cllr Lister, who last year joined dads on a sponsored Three Peaks Challenge to scale Britain's highest peaks, Snowdon, Sca Fell and Ben Nevis in three days, praised the efforts of the Home/School Association.

He said: "Having seen the results, I can only congratulate them on their success."

Now that the two libraries are up and running, the association aims to start again on their money spinning activities to provide a new ?2,000 climbing frame for the school hall.

An ice skating event has been organised and a car boot sale planned on April 8 to start off the fund.
