![]() Herristone Park picnic The Friends of Herristone Park held a successful picnic attended by about 200 people on Sunday 3 June to celebrate International Neighbours' Day. Visitors enjoyed a performance by Crumpsall Concert Band and children were entertained by Smilie the Clown who delighted youngsters with his balloon and magic show. There was a free kite making craft session supplied by the health promotion organisation Zest who also donated a basket of fruit which was raffled at the end of the day. Boys and girls took part in sporting activities organised by Manchester City Council's Sport Development team and prizes were presented. A grant was provided from Manchester City Council's Neighbours' Day fund to help pay for the event. Friends treasurer Gail Lamb thanked the volunteers who helped to make the day a success and thanked The Advertiser for promoting the picnic. She said: “We were very lucky with the weather and it was a great day. We would like to thank all the volunteers who turned up on the day to run stalls and help set up and take down equipment and The Advertiser for helping to publicise the picnic. “We are grateful to the local councillors who took part and the City Council and staff for their hard work and support and to all the families who came out and make the day a success.” *A door key was handed in to one of the organisers after it was found at the site. The key can be claimed by contacting park wardens at Crumpsall Park on 702 1185. |
