land adjoining the Zeneca site, now under control of Avecia, involve retaining the existing security fence around the computer centre and erecting two-metre-high metal rod security railings along the eastern bank of the River Irk, Delauney's Road, Mill Brow and the eastern boundary of the site.

Two metre high safety railings are proposed on both banks of the River Irk at the waters edge, along the section from Delauney's Road to the Old House at Home pub at Bottomley Side.

A gatehouse will be sited at the access to the site from Delauney's Road and the applicants are applying to divert the route of the field footpath from Delauney's Road to Slack Road and re-route it along the river bank to improve security.

The proposal includes providing an all-weather, floodlit, multi-sports area for five-a-side football, netball and three tennis courts for use by Avecia employees and associate members.

Concern has been expressed that Zeneca's site, used as a chemical works including labs and storage accommodation, is contaminated with chemical waste and a survey is being recommended to establish whether the site is safe.

The application will be considered on Thursday, February 3.
