ONE of the world's oldest and largest Thai boxing associations is running new courses in the martial art at North Manchester Community Sports Centre. The Thai and kick boxing classes are being held on Tuesdays between 4pm and 5.30pm at the Charlestown Road centre in Blackley with separate sessions for the over 16s and under 16s. A spokesman for the association stressed the value of the training as a fitness and confidence-building exercise as well as self defence. He said: "The WKA is the oldest and largest kickboxing and Thai boxing association in the world and we specialise in training men women and children in what is now recognised as the easiest to learn and most effective martial art. "The ability and confidence gained by being trained in self defence can often give those valuable few minutes to get help or reach safety in a life-threatening situation. "This class will also enable you to attain fitness and provides a complete body workout." Classes cost ?1.50 for the under 16s and ?2 for over 16s.
