REFUGEE children in north Manchester are to receive gifts for the Muslim celebration of Eid collected from well wishers in the area. Some of the gifts - toys for children of all ages - have already been circulated but around 200 boxed gifts were being distributed to dozens of children in the city this weekend. The gifts have been collected by Manchester-based charity, Human Appeal International, and have been handed over to the Save the Children charity and to Manchester social services for distribution. The gifts are part of Eid-ul-Fitr, being celebrated by the Muslim community on Sunday, December 16, following the Ramadan fasting season, when people are encouraged to share Eid sweets and traditional delicacies with workmates, neighbours and school friends. |
