DEVELOPERS are planning to build 24 family homes to rent on the site of Temple Primary School in Cheetham Hill.

Manchester Methodist Housing Association is to take over the 1.2-acre site on Smedley Street and an area of land to the north fronting on to Cheetham Hill Road.

The site wraps around a doctors? surgery which will remain once the three and four bedroom houses are built.

Homes fronting Smedley Street will be semi-detached with rear gardens and a driveway to accommodate two vehicles. Others will be built in a courtyard design with access off Cheetham Hill Road.

The development is part of a Private Finance Initiative involving demolishing the school and rebuilding it nearby.

There is an existing traffic calming speed cushion feature on Smedley Street outside the school entrance.

As part of the scheme, traffic calming speed cushions placed outside the school may be removed or replaced depending on the outcome of a traffic survey.

The existing pelican crossing near the proposed access off Cheetham Hill Road will be relocated to the south side of Smedley Street.
