GANGSTERS banned from parts of north Manchester have featured in a leaflet campaign aimed at encouraging residents to report sightings if they stray into areas that are out of bounds. The so-called Chapel Lane gang from Blackley are pictured on 6,500 leaflets being dropped through letter boxes in the Higher Blackley area along with 100 posters which will go on public display. Sixteen year old Thomas McCartney, his 28 year old brother, Matthew, Ryan Brown, aged 18 and Michael Wigglesworth, aged 17, are all subject to anti-social behaviour orders imposed at Manchester magistrates court last month. The leaflets explain that Thomas McCartney, of Blackley New Road, is banned for five years and faces arrest if he steps inside an area bordered by Blackley New Road, Rochdale Road, the M60 motorway and Middleton Road. Ryan Brown, of Weardale Road, is banned from the same area as Thomas McCartney, except for three named streets. Michael Wigglesworth, of Levedale Road, is banned from the same area as Thomas McCartney. Matthew McCartney is banned from Heaton Park. The other three are banned from congregating in groups of more than four in public and cannot act anti-socially. Inspector Alex Millet of Greater Manchester Police said: "These anti social behaviour orders will protect the residents of Blackley from further anti social acts by these four individuals who are prolific offenders. They take us a step nearer to eradicating anti social behaviour in the Blackley area." All four face imprisonment if they breach their orders. The court allowed the two juveniles involved to be named. The leaflets contain contact numbers for people to ring in with sightings. They are Collyhurst police station, telephone 856-3931 and Manchester Housing On Call in north Manchester, telephone 953-2525. |
