FUN for the festive season gets underway at Crumpsall's Herristone Park on Sunday, December 2 when families get together for a Christmas grotto and carol concert.

The Friends of Herristone Park, a group set up to promote the interests of park users and neighbouring residents, are organising the event which starts at 2.30pm.

Tickets are being sold door-to-door and will be available on the day.
For just ?1, up to two children will receive a gift from Father Christmas and all tickets will be entered into a prize draw.

There is lots to be won including hairdressing and manicure vouchers, pet care equipment, meat vouchers, fancy goods, champagne, wine and chocolates. Prizes have been donated by businesses on Lansdowne Road and Crumpsall Lane.

Adults will be invited to get into the festive spirit with a complimentary glass of mulled wine and a mincepie and join in communal carol singing led by singers from local choirs and Crumpsall Comets band.

Those attending on the day will have the chance to meet the Friends of Herristone Park and add their names to the membership list to keep up to date with improvements being made.

Chris Humphreys, the group's secretary, said: "This is our first community event since we launched the Friends of Herristone Park and we're hoping people will take the opportunity to get together.

"There will be shelter provided so, even if the weather's bad on the day, we should still be able to enjoy the event and all the money raised from the ticket sales will go back into future community activities in the park."
