New Mills climb to fifth spot in the Premier Division despite seeing visitors Leigh claw back a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2, writes Scott White. Dean Morgan and Chris Lees had given the Millers a solid lead, but goals from Rick Wilson and Steve Bevin salvaged a point for the Latics. Wythenshawe Amateurs bounced back after last week's county cup defeat to record a 2-0 win over Dukinfield Town, Matt Tully and Gareth Mostyn scored either side of half-time for the Ammies. Irlam MS won on the road at Pennington where goals from Nick Robinson, Danny Butters and Andy Lundy secured the points, Phil Richardson netting for the home side. Wilmslow Albion maintained their stranglehold on the First Division leadership with a hard fought 4-3 win at Warth Fold, goals from Mickey Beirne and Jason Dunford, plus a brace from Gavin Roberts, were enough despite efforts from Vidal Spaine, Sahoud Barud and Mario Daniel. Royton Town move ominously into second spot thanks to a 9-0 romp at Milton, Paul Smith hitting a hat-trick and Paul Ashton a brace with Phil Hulme, Callum Frizzell, Ian Hulme and Neno Corry completing the scoring. Manchester Royal pushed Breightmet United all the way, but the home side won through 2-1 thanks to two goals from Phil Hinks, Eke Eme again on the mark for Royal. Unsworth collected a useful win courtesy of a 3-1 win at Old Alts, Scott Gibson, Paul Lyons all Gary Breakley scoring for the Bury side with Nick Owen hitting Alts' consolation. In the Manchester Challenge Trophy, East Manchester hit the headlines with a 5-1 victory over Droylsden, two goals apiece from Darren Green and Martyn Stewart, plus one from Brian Thommason, finishing off the students. Failsworth Town edged a tight derby match at Avro 2-0, Phil Simmons and Anthony Hanlon scoring either side of the break, and Wythenshawe Town also won away, 5-1 at Hollinwood, Tom Langstaff scoring twice with Pat Reid, Darren Mee and Russ Attuquayefio scoring, Rob Overy grabbing 'Wood's consolation. In the Lancashire Shield, Atherton Town progressed at Slyne with Hest thanks to a Neil Lewis goal in a 1-0 win, and Ashton Athletic won the all AIR MILES Manchester League clash with Whitworth Valley 2-0, Steve Mansfield and David Fitzroy both scoring. Elton Fold were left biting their nails as they went through 4-3 on penalties against Stoneclough, but there was no such luck for Rochdale Sacred Heart who lost at Norcross and Warbreck from the spot. Hindsford pressed West Lancashire League Champions Kirkham and Wesham hard but lost out 1-0 despite a fine performance. |
