ARCHITECTURAL merit in new buildings and restoration schemes is being recognised in this year's Civic Trust Awards. Individuals and groups are invited to enter any outstanding new buildings, restoration projects, public art works, landscape and urban design schemes by September 28. The annual scheme is run by the Civic Trust, the charity which campaigns for a better built environment, in partnership with Manchester City Council. The aim of the Civic Trust Awards is to raise awareness of the importance of design in improving the environment by recognising outstanding projects in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape, public art and urban design. Entries are invited for any building and landscape projects, regardless of size or type, completed between January 1, 1999 and September 30, 2001. Anyone can enter a project with the permission of the owner and the occupier. Successful Manchester entries have, in the past, included such famous landmark buildings as the Bridgewater Hall and the Hulme Arch Bridge. The 2002 programme also features seven special awards to promote excellence in access for disabled people, urban design, exterior lighting and partnership projects. |
