APROVAL has been granted to plans to extend a Blackley nursing home and provide extra beds. The Peace Haven Nursing Home on Coldstream Avenue is a detached nursing home for the elderly on a corner plot in a residential area. It has been extended in the past and the owners now want to build a part two-storey, part single-storey extension to provide additional bed spaces. The extension will be on the northerly side of the home and would project forward by 13ft 1in from the existing building with the two-storey part next to the neighbouring house to the north. No objections have been raised by nearby neighbours consulted over the proposals and planning chiefs say the site is more than adequate to accommodate such an extension. They say the extension will reflect the existing main building and will harmonise with the existing structure having no 'undue impact' on the immediate neighbours. Social services chiefs supported the extension for the property which they say is located in an area where provision of residential care is low. |
