Rated: PG
Running time: 87 mins

More dog's dinner than cat's whiskers, Cats and Dogs takes an age old conflict around the park for what we hope is one last time.

From the top we are introduced to characters who, however ably
performed by a fairly strong cast, quickly show a distinct
inability in adding any depth with which to elevate this film.

It opts instead to imitate the much loved surprise hit, Spy Kids, in it's spy vs. spy premise and over the top James Bond spoof tactics.

Unlike Spy Kids, Cats and Dogs sacrifices plot consistency for set pieces which are more technically competent than genuinely funny.

It's also interesting to note that as a film which sides so
completely with dogs it is, in fact, the cats who ultimately win all the laughs. The situations and, as far as they go, the characters of the cats taking over the world contain a lot more mileage than their tail wagging, eager to please dog counterparts. Cats most definitely rule.

It just goes to show that animals just should not talk. At least not
for ninety minutes and certainly not the kind of dumbed down family
values garbage they are forced to recite in this film. Despite the
clever use of animatronics and CGI (and some very nifty editing), the effort comes across as uneven and misdirected far too often.

Cats and Dogs should do its business in somebody else's street.
