RS at St Dunstan's RC Church in Moston have been stunned by the announcement that their popular Parish Priest Fr Michael Kujacz is leaving for Spain.

Fr Kujacz joined St Dunstan's only five years ago when he took over from Monsignor Allen and proved an instant hit with his unconventional, youth oriented approach to parish life.

He opened up the presbytery house to the whole community allowing the rooms to buzz with activities throughout the week and Fr Kujacz even converted an inner courtyard into a youth club and installed basket ball nets.

Parishioners heard for the first time on Sunday that Fr Kujacz had been called to new duties in Valladolid where he will be responsible for developing future programmes for training for the priesthood.

He will be working on a programme drawn up by the Bishops which will plan seminary training for the future and consider the existing seven, seminaries, the number of candidates, and the Church's expectations.

Fr Kujacz said: "Being involved at this critical time is important, exciting and challenging. Out of the blue I was approached by Cardinal Murphy O'Connor and then by Archbishop Nichols to be part of the process and take on a particular task at Valladolid, and with the blessing of Bishop Brain will take up a new post there in September.

"It is with reluctance that I leave Moston, and the many wonderful parishioners, better to say friends; in my mind I had expected to be here for many more years. But you have heard me say this before, that when I promised obedience to my Bishop, then Bishop Holland, that I meant it and whatever the Church asked the answer would always be yes even if it would be painful.

"One great consolation going back over the last few weeks was seeing so many people, working together as a team, it is togetherness which gives any Parish its worth; and it is that which makes this Parish so very special indeed."
