![]() Face painting at the Friends of Cravenwood Primary School stall Organisers were disappointed when many stall holders who had booked pitches failed to show up and the promised fairground turned out to be a single ride and a couple of side shows. A parade of children in fancy dress from Herristone Park to the Crumpsall Park carnival site went ahead even though a pipe band and police horses booked to lead the parade failed to appear. Youngsters involved in the one-day football championships barely noticed the rain, and local groups running plant, jumble, book, food and information stalls refused to be downhearted. This year the event clashed with the Asian Mela festival at Heaton Park which may have drawn away some of the families that would normally be expected to attend. The Friends of Crumpsall Park, who have organised the event for the last six years, must now consider whether all the hard work was worth it. It may be that this year's rain has put a dampener on enthusiasm for good.
