POLICE are being invited to address residents worried about rowdy youths after scenes of gang violence broke out at a Crumpsall park.

Householders over looking Herristone Park were horrified when about 40 youths gathered at the park resulting in a confrontation lasting from 10pm until 3am.

The incident was reported to a meeting of the Friends of Herristone Park who agreed to call the area's community police officers to their next meeting on July 26 to discuss problems in the area.

Residents reported that the youths had been drinking alcohol, smashing bottles and fighting during the incident in early June.

The Friends of Herristone Park had been targeting dog walkers to encourage them to clean up after their pets and to issue them with contact numbers for park wardens now patrolling the area.

The contact number 795 0525 will now be publicised through a leaflet to be distributed to homes overlooking the park.

In the leaflet residents will also be encouraged to report crimes to the police and demand a log number so that the police response can be monitored.

The Friends of Herristone Park will hold a stall at the Crumpsall Carnival to recruit new members, seek people's views on improvements needed in the park and up-data residents on improvements made so far.
