A BANK has pulled out of Cheetham Hill after suffering two robberies so far this year. Barclays Bank has closed down due to concerns for staff safety after the armed raid in May and workers have been transferred to other branches. The branch has been open only five years but was robbed three times in 1999 and four times in 2000 despite having CCTV cameras installed. It is believed to be the first time Barclays Bank has been forced to close a branch because of crime. The blow has resulted in demands for more police in the area which has had millions of pounds invested in housing, jobs and environmental improvements in the last three years. |
