EYESORE sites in Cheetham are being turned into beauty spots and pensioners are being given free gardening services provided by the area's Community Rangers. The team has been set up through the government's New deal programme to help unemployed young people gain new skills and confidence to enable them to find permanent jobs. Unemployed people aged between 16 and 24 are receiving training under the scheme and wages for 12 months to carry out gardening work and improve pockets of derelict land. Cheetham and Broughton Partnership, Manchester City Council, and the Groundwork environmental trust are running the project. |
