THE BIGGEST peacetime recruitment campaign in the UK has been launched to draft in 15,000 volunteers for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. The volunteers will be needed from July 25 to August 4 to operate across all areas from the athletes Village to all sporting venues. They will be trained in a range of roles including athlete, media and VIP accreditation, press and broadcasting services, ticketing, transport, ushering and VIP services. Volunteers with specialist skills will also be required particularly in medicine, sport and technology. Amy Parrish-Rett, who has managed the volunteer scheme for the Atlanta Olympics, said: "We are looking for dedicated volunteers who will give their best for the Games. "It's about welcoming the world to Manchester and Britain and helping us to stage not only the biggest but also the best ever commonwealth Games." |
