S are being urged to come forward to prevent this year's Crumpsall Carnival being scrapped due to lack of support.

The carnival has become a key event in the community calendar and has been attracting hundreds of people ever year since it was launched six years ago.

Organisers have set a date for Sunday, July 15 for this year's event but fear they may be forced to abandon their plans unless more people come forward to help run the event.

Helen Lambert, of the Friends of Crumpsall Park which created the carnival, hoped many people will come forward to offer their skills and lighten the load.

She said: "The carnival has become a regular feature of summer in Crumpsall. Unfortunately the number of people involved in organising the event has declined and unless we get more helpers the carnival may not happen this year."

People are needed to provide entertainment, donate raffle prizes, sell raffle tickets, organise refreshments, writing letters, stuffing envelopes, delivering leaflets, decorating the park or tidying up afterwards.

Helen said: "Every little helps - even if you can only spare a little time ion the day of the carnival please let us know. All money raised on the day will be spent on the park.

"Over the next few years we hope to make the dreams people have for the park a reality. These include play equipment for older children, resurfacing and perhaps floodlights for the 'pink' are near Westbury Road, a wild flower area, more seats and bins and a wider variety of plants and shrubs."

The Friends of Crumpsall park are holding a public meeting at the park visitor centre on Wednesday, May 23 at 7pm when they hope park users will attend to air their views.
