TEACHERS at a Moston school are to share a windfall of thousands of pounds after the government gave them a bonus for raising standards among pupils. St Dunstan's RC Primary School on Edale Avenue has been given a ?6,760 School Achievement Award to divide between staff as a reward for improvements in exam results between 1997 and 2000. The school is among more than 50 primary and secondary schools across Manchester, including 13 in the north Manchester area, to have received awards under the scheme. Awards will be paid to the local authority in April and passed on to school governing bodies which will decide how the awards should be distributed to staff. The news delighted St Dunstan's governors deputy chairman Councillor Bill Risby. He said: "This is wonderful news. We've yet to decide how the award will be distributed but I'm sure everyone will agree the award is richly deserved by all the staff at St Dunstans. They do a magnificent job." St Chad's Primary 4,870 in Charlestown was awarded ?4,870 and Temple Primary in Cheetham received the biggest bonus of any north Manchester The government has also presented awards for excellence to schools that have achieved higher results than others in similar circumstances during 2000. These have gone to Cheetham CE Primary which collects ?10,730, Mount Carmel RC Primary in Blackley where staff will have ?9,380, King David Junior in Crumpsall receives ?8,470 and St Anne's Primary, also in Crumpsall was granted ?7,660. Improvement awards also went to Abraham Moss High School where teachers will enjoy and extra ?40,440 and King David high School which has been granted ?19,010. |
