Please note, this is an archived story. Please check the date above.

I am just about half way through my year of teaching at Crumpsall Lane Primary School. I am beginning to feel like an old timer because I know my way around, I know all of the staff members by name and I know where to find supplies. My students are accustom to my American accent and no longer correct my pronunciation of the English language, well, almost never. I feel comfortable integrating my American teaching methods into the English system.

I feel balanced and energized. The comfort level that I feel at Crumpsall Lane is very high. I contribute this to many factors. I feel welcomed by the staff. I know I can go to any member of the staff and have my questions or concerns addressed. The parents are friendly and concerned about their children's education. The children are the best. I enjoy teaching my Reception class, but I also thrive on conversing with the older students.

The question that I am most frequently asked by the older students, "What's it like in America?" That is a tough one in five minutes or less.

There are two very important reasons why my experience at Crumpsall is going so well.

The first reason is the Head Teacher. Mr. Robertson. He has the school running like clockwork. We all know what to do when. He administers with a kind but firm hand. The students respect and revere him. He never leaves a question unanswered. He was prepared for my arrival and continues to make sure my experience is excellent. Most important, he continues to make sure that the education of the students at Crumpsall Lane Primary is the best.

The second reason is my teaching partner Helen. She has guided me into the English way of teaching with a knowledgeable and caring hand. I can not thank her enough for all of the hours she has spent with me explaining patiently how things are accomplished in the English education system. She is also my best resource for advice on getting around Manchester. We have become very good friends and I am sure we will continue this friendship in the years to come.

Each day I thank my "lucky stars" that I am at Crumpsall Lane Primary School.

I am already sad about leaving and it's months away.

The community of Crumpsall must be very proud to have such an excellent primary school in their midst.
