TRIBUTE has been paid to a tireless campaigner so her spirit lives on in the community she served before her untimely death. Friends and relatives were devastated when Annette McKai, a founder of the Friends of Crumpsall Park, died last year leaving behind husband Stuart and two young children Ellie and Christopher. Park users have now planted a flowering hawthorn bearing a plaque in her memory in the park's dog-walking zone which was devised by animal-lover Annette who lived on Cleveland Road. Everyone who new Annette was invited to attend a simple ceremony led by Manchester City Council leader Richard Leese who had worked with her to improve the park. Joanne Green, a fellow founder of the Friends group, praised Annette's contribution to the community where she is sadly missed. Joanne said: "Annette was a regular user of the park and was one of the founders of the Friends. She was very active in the community generally. "She was involved in the toddler group at St Matthew and St Mark's and was a playgroup volunteer at Crumpsall Lane School, she was also known to a lot of people and we thought it would be nice to recognise her work." |
