It took two second half goals to save current Premier Division leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs from defeat at home to Springhead. Goals from Darren Schofield, Danny Self and Mike McNamara looked to have given the visitors the points but Ray Beer added to an earlier goal along with an effort from Paul Aldus to secure a point. Mitchell Shackleton edged closer with an impressive 3-2 win over Stand Athletic, John Robinson netting twice and Danny Butters seeing the Eccles side home, though goals from Stand's Mark Denham and Steve Davies kept it on a knife-edge to the end. Atherton Town narrowly defeated an improving Stockport Georgians at Howe Bridge, Phil Hornby's strike all that separated the teams. A Reni Tumini brace steered Dukinfield Town to victory over Sacred Heart, Steve Holt's second half goal not enough for the visitors against a Town side getting better by the week. Prestwich Heys ran in the day's biggest victory as they cut loose against Pennington with a 6-0 romp. Brandon Jolly helped himself to a hat-trick with Alex Ritchie adding two more and Anthony Jackson rounding things off. The middle of the table clash between Elton Fold and Willows ended in a predictable draw, Steve Smith putting Fold ahead in the first half before Jamie Shepley sniffed out an equaliser. Monton Amateurs move five points clear of visiting Failsworth Town when a Graham Bragg goal for the Ammies divided the sides at Granary Lane. Wilmslow Albion booked a Murray Shield Semi-Final place following an exciting 3-2 extra-time win over holders Wythenshawe Town. Goals from Fabio Polverino and Martin Colman for Albion and Mike Botham and Darren Mee for Town took the game into extra-time, but up popped Steve Norton to seal a momentous win for Wilmslow. Whitworth Valley edged three points clear at the top of the First Division with a 3-0 win at Manchester Royal, brothers Rory and Malcolm McDowell finding the net with Steve Parry getting the other for Valley. Belden once again proved their improving pedigree with a 1-1 draw with Leigh Athletic, Abdul Rae on target for the home side with Gordon Walker adding Leigh's effort. Breightmet United moved level on points with Leigh following a 4-1 win over Old Alts. Phil Hinks got two of United's goals with Darren Harper and Paul Fletcher also scoring, John Thomson bagging Alts consolation. There was a goalfest at Squires Lane where Hindsford and New Mills shared eight goals in a 4-4 thriller. Goals from Matt Toone, Danny Briggs and two from Peter Barry were Hindsford's contribution with Mike Brown, Stacey Wild (2) and Steve Done scoring for the Millers. Avro and Whalley Range were also in free-scoring form as they drew 3-3 at the Lancaster Club. Martin Moran got two for Avro with Anthony Grayson also on target, whilst Range secured a good away goal thanks to goals from Jason Hancock, Lee Fuller and Jason McNulty. Milton lead at Ashton Athletic thanks to a Danny Healey goal, but the Latics levelled through Dave Powell to give both sides a point. Tintwistle Villa climbed off the bottom of the table with a convincing 3-0 win over Hollinwood, Dave Dickins scoring twice before Noel Green rounded off a good afternoon for Villa. |
