N'S entertainer Lance Stanbury is to challenge Labour MP Graham Stringer for the Blackley parliamentary seat in the General Election.

The Conservative high flyer and former nightclub boss who now runs a children's entertainment business, led his party to victory in Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire in 1999 for only the second time in 25 years.

Cllr Stanbury, aged 37, a father of two young children, was first elected to his council in 1995 and believes his experience as a council leader will help him represent the needs of Blackley people.

He said: "Blackley has distinct social issues that need tackling and, having been a local authority leader, I understand those issues and how they should be addressed.

"When the time comes for the people of this country to choose a new government, I will be working hard to ensure the return of a Conservative Government."
