PROPOSALS for improvements to the Harpurhey district centre on Rochdale Road have gone out to public consultation and shoppers have been given their chance to have a say. People have been inspecting draft plans for the refurbishment and development of the centre and officers from North Manchester Regeneration and Manchester City council have been noting comments. Consultations on outline proposals, including the development of a new leisure centre, have also been held with local traders, market stall holders and other local organisations. The Harpurhey District Centre was built in the late 70s and includes a mix of supermarkets including Asda and Kwiksave and is home to the Harpurhey Retail Market. Outline proposals for its refurbishment have been developed through a partnership between Manchester City Council, North Manchester Regeneration and private sector developers st Modwen. Further public consultation will be planned for the future as the project develops. A map of the planned development can be viewed here (large image). |
