CONSULTATION is being carried out to gauge public opinion on whether the Local Area Partnership (LAP) has delivered on promises made to Crumpsall people last March.

A newsletter highlighting the achievements of the LAP is being distributes throughout the Crumpsall area and residents are being invited to comment on the achievements made so far.

The LAP is a partnership between Manchester City Council, the police and local groups which has been set up to tackle crime and community safety issues in Crumpsall.

Initiatives introduced so far include providing two police officers every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7pm to 5am to deal solely with youths causing annoyance.

They also have access to an off-road motorcycle to respond to complaints of bikers racing around public parks and open spaces and Crumpsall Metrolink Station has been given extra policing.

A youth project has been set up to target young people who have not been attending school for the last 18 months and so far six have signed up to a course in Crumpsall Park.

The group meets in the park hut to take part in activities such as basic skills, careers information and building self-esteem and already five have gained work placements or started training schemes.

A pilot scheme to improve housing has been launched in the Duchess Road area involving Irwell Valley Housing Association and Manchester Housing to raise standards of accommodation.

Over the next two years ?1m will be allocated to the project which aims to concentrate on parts of Crumpsall where property values have fallen and many homes have been turned over to private landlords.

Environmental improvements have included clearing derelict land on Nada Road and residents on Enver and Parkhill Road have received help in bidding for cash to secure alleyways.

A traffic calming scheme for St Mary's Hall Road will be starting in January 2001 and special funding has been set aside for a scheme to start in two years to replace street lighting.

Further improvements include road surfacing on Wilton Road and bury New Road due to start this month.
