Cheetham Hill Juniors 7 (Seven) Bowdon 1
Cheetham Hill began the season with an emphatic 7 - 1 away victory over against Cheshire opponents Bowdon. Short of match practice Cheetham Hill went a goal down after only two minutes and their prospects looked as bleak as the Manchester weather. Cheetham Hill, however, soon regained their composure and equalised through Andy Summersgill (Lancashire U15) after a flowing passing move down the right wing. The right wing attacks became a feature of Cheetham Hill's play with crisp passing movements between Phil Garrett, Ryan Summersgill and Colin Simms with Colin putting Cheetham Hill two up after a quarter of the game. In the early stages of the game Bowdon remained a threat but were kept at bay by Cheetham Hill's Lancashire U14 goalkeeper Jack Scargill. Cheetham Hill went in at half-time with a 3 - 1 lead after a second goal from Andy Summersgill. Cheetham Hill dominated the second half with forwards James Connolly (11years) and Richard Scargill (10yrs) becoming more confident as the game wore on and came close to scoring on a number of occasions and Richard Scargill eventually adding the fourth goal by sweeping in a another pin point right wing cross. Ryan Summersgill added number 5 after a left side attacking move inspired by the hard working Midfielder Michael Garrett. Cheetham Hill were now rampant and Andy Summersgill completed his hat-trick after a fine dribble and strong shot from the edge of the 'D'. Central defender Matthew McCarthy completed the rout with another fine individual goal. Bowdon, to their credit, continued to attack but strong tackling in the heart of the defence by Matthew Hughes thwarted their efforts to salvage any further consolation. Joe Halligan (11yrs) continued his development with another fine performance in the critical left back position. This was an excellent Cheetham Hill performance built on teamwork and characterised by crisp flowing passing movements rapidly turning defence into attack. Cheetham will hope to emulate this performance next Saturday when they travel to Runcorn Hockey Club. |
