SLEEP-STARVED residents are calling time on brawling boozers at a Moston club where they say late-night noise has become intolerable. Householders on Ebsworth Street have complained to licensing chiefs at Manchester Magistrate's Court after running out of patience with Moston Liberal Club. The Liberal Club has a midnight license every Friday and Saturday when nearby neighbours say the noise is terrible with people drinking outside the club. Residents complain the revellers smash empty bottles and glasses on the road, pavement and car park and are constantly woken up by the noise and people fighting. The complaint has now been taken up by Lightbowne councillor Bill Risby who is investigating the problem as well as Manchester City Council's environmental health officers. Pleading for a peaceful weekend, one resident said: "Something has now got to be done as many of us have children and it has now affected them. "The club just do not seem to care about this and we just feel that this cannot be allowed to go on. After all, when you have been at work all week this is the last thing you want to have to put up with." |
