ENVIRONMENTAL improvements are being carried out in parts of Lightbowne to help reduce crime and encourage home owners to stay in the area. Council officers are working with the environment group Groundwork Manchester to upgrade rear alleyways on Brocklehurst Street and the common drying area to the rear of Chinley Avenue and Edale Avenue. These schemes are being carried out as part of the city council and North Manchester Regeneration's aim to provide a clean, safe and secure place for people to live. The sites were chosen because they are in the Bluestone Road/Lily Lane Housing Initiative area and residents had contacted housing officers about problems in the area. After consultation with the residents it was decided to tarmac rear alleyways on Brockhurst Street and install gating on the odds side. Land at the rear of Chinley and Edale avenues will be made into communal gardens with a gated entrance. Council bosses are also seeking funding for improvements to the street scene at 86 - 108 Kenyon Lane, 1 - 18 McConnell Road and 52 - 70 Lilly Lane. Improvements will include new front boundary walls, repointing and treatment to front guttering on private properties as part of the council's policy to encourage owner occupiers to stay in the neighbourhood. |
