A BLITZ on dog dirt is planned in some of north Manchester's worst hit areas with warden patrols as often as twice a day to catch the culprits. An extra ?65,000 has been allocated to Manchester's dog warden service to help pay for an increase in the size of the team from three to five. In areas where dog owners continue to ignore by-laws banning dog fouling in public places and where seizing strays fails to improve the problem, tougher tactics will be used. Officers will target problem areas each household will receive a letter advising them how to be a responsible dog owner and what will happen if they allow their dog to stray or foul. Areas will be swept clean before dog warden patrols start and will be cleaned again during the patrols whenever excessive dog fouling is found by wardens. A two-week campaign will then be launched when wardens will patrol the area twice a day and will issue on-the-spot fines to anyone allowing their dog to foul. |
