TEENAGER Jonathan Silcock has scooped three gold medals in the Greater Manchester Youth Games.

The 16-year-old from Cheetham Hill was one of the 5,000 young people who took part in the Games over the weekend at the Robin Park sports complex in Wigan.

Jonathon, who has been disabled from birth, won gold in the 100m, wheelchair slalom and relay.

The youngster trains with his athletics squad in Gorton and also plays basketball for the Manchester Mavericks.

Jonathan now hopes his success at youth level will help put him in good stead to represent the country at international level.

He said: "I was very happy to get involved with sport. When I first started, I doing it, I didn't think I would get as far as I have.

"We do a lot of training for these games; three times a week. I enjoy the competition and I like keeping fit.

"I've always been keen on sport and I like playing basketball. My ambition is to go to the Olympics and represent Great Britain."
