BLACKLEY MP Graham Stringer has released figures showing 2,900 families in his north Manchester constituency are benefiting from the Working Families Tax Credit.

The Labour MP said tackling child poverty to give every child a better start in life would continue to be a key priority in the area.

He said: "Already 2,900 hard-working families in Manchester Blackley are receiving the Working Families Tax Credit which will rise next year ensuring a minimum income of ?214 a week from next year.

"I am convinced there are many more who are eligible and urge working parents who think they may be due a little extra help to call the free hotline on 0800 5795976.

"With the record rise in child benefit introduced this year - to ?15 a week for the first child - these are crucial parts of the government's long-term strategy to tackle child poverty which will help parents in Manchester Blackley to give their children the best start in life.

"This strategy has helped lift nearly a million children out of poverty."
