DARING drinkers at a Crumpsall pub are teaming up as dambusters to raise funds for the eight Marie Curie nurses working in north Manchester. On Sunday, June 4, five chums from the Cheers Bar in Middleton Road will join other sponsored fundraisers to abseil down the Baitings Dam in the Pennines which holds 3.5m cubic metres of water. The Cheers team will include 'Mad Mike' McDonagh, 'Taxi Pat' Jones, Barbara Flint, Glen Williams, peter Clements and Dave Morris. They will be taking part in the challenge to support the Marie Curie nurses who provide free care and support to cancer patients and their families in their own homes. Taxi Pat looked forward to taking on the 200ft dam and hoped others would join in. He said: "It's a great opportunity to raise funds while doing something different and exciting." The event is being organised by the local area fundraiser Jane Morris and is open to anyone aged 16 or over who is prepared to raise sponsorship money. Places are still available and may be booked through Jane on 480 3002. |
