AMATEUR footballers in Cheetham celebrated a royal appointment after their manager was honoured by the Queen. Thomas Lever attended a prestigious awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace with his proud family when he received the MBE after being nominated in the Queen's New Year's Honours list. Thomas, who dedicates his time to helping young people, has spent more than 20 years working part-time and voluntarily to build up local youth clubs and run football teams in Cheetham. He attended the presentation ceremony with his wife Lesley, teenage son Scott and sister-in-law Alison and sat beside international ice skaters Torville and Dean to receive his medal from Prince Charles. |
