Big FC won the u19s competition overcoming stiff opposition from teams from Ancoats and Ardwick.

The new Streetlife football tournament was launched at the start of the year with u15s matches being played on Wednesday evenings and u19s on Friday evenings at Crossley House in Openshaw.

Manchester Youth Service provided transport for the teams and money for prizes and trophies was obtained through the regeneration agancies for the areas involved.

Team manager Andy Hughes, speaking at the trophy presentation night, explained the secret of his side's success. He said: "They're big lads."

The regional heats of the national u15s five-a-side Snickers Midnite League competition will be held at North Manchester Community Sports Centre during May.

Last year the event was televised and regional winners will go on to play in a national final. Teams must have nine players plus a manager.

The over 35s can keep up their stamina with the first Nightowls 11-a-side League competition with no offside rule and roll on roll off subs to give all players a kick about.

Games are played on a full-size floodlit synthetic pitch at the community sports centre, which is part of North Manchester Boys High School on Charlestown Road.
