SPECIAL commendations have been presented to members of Cheetham Hill communities as part of an initiative to celebrate the area's cultural diversity. The One Hundred Years of Cheetham and Broughton is being led by Manchester Jewish Museum in recognition of the contributions made by ethnic minority groups. The museum on Cheetham Hill Road is hosting an exhibition in November which will run until July 2001 showing how the area has changed in the last century. There will also be a travelling exhibition including pictures by documentary photographer Nudrat Afza recording scenes from the first year of the New Millennium. Manchester's Lord Mayor Tony Burns presented awards to community leaders including Sister Elizabeth Cahill, Maulana Haji Ishaq Zeria and Haji Wazir. |
